    So what's crackin in Minecraft?

I was just wondering what everyone's interest level is at this point?
I'm thinking about getting the game, and would like to know if anyone could draw out a basic guideline for me to get up and running...

    1. Buy it from the official site?
    2. Is it all one DL or are there extras I would need?
    3. Best link for tutorials/learning the available things to do?
    4. Do we have a server that would be noob safe for me to build w/o causing harm?

I enjoyed map making in Quake with blocks, etc. so I can definitely see myself spending a good time making some really fun structures... any info would be much appreciated.

They don't have a sig with a scythe? wtf?

    1. I bought it from the official site and had no problems.
    2. The game is just one download. Extra stuff is mods, skins for your character, and texture packs. You don't need them but some like them.
    3. Minecraft wiki is a pretty good site. http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Minecraft_Wiki

As for guides. This one is fine to get the idea what you have to do for the first night. On survival.

    4. There really aren't people on the MadCast server recently. But it has some cool structures and stuff on it. You can't really harm them that easily. The three ways to ruin things are tnt, pickaxing, and fires. And tnt you have to make. Pick axing takes time and fires deal with putting lava in places it shouldn't be. So if you don't mess with lava and tnt by peoples stuff nothing should go wrong.

So you could easily build on the MadCast server. There is plenty of space.

MadCast also has a creative server which doesn't have the worries of monsters and you get unlimited blocks. And destroying blocks take no time.

So I spawned in on the side of a hill, with stuff already looking to kill me... I tried to survey quickly as I fled, got down into the woods a little bit and started a little bit of a bunker. One thing I've noticed is that food is kinda scarce-- does it respawn ever, or is it just depleted? Also... are things spawning inside my home when I not in there? And what is allowing this--just dark spots?

Yup the mobs will spawn anywhere that is dark. That is outside, inside, or underground. Light it up with torches. (1 coal and 1 stick)

For the hunger problem go kill some pigs and then take the meat and put it in a furnace. This will get you cooked meat which you can eat.

There are a lot more ways to find or make food. http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Food

I normally don't eat food at all and leave myself at 1/2 heart but you die alot. If your base isn't near your spawn make sure to make a bed (3 wool/3 wood) and sleep in it one night. That will make your respawn at your bed if you die.

Have you been using the multiplayer server or singleplayer?

I think I got it comin along... but yeah the food thing just seemed a little thin, on singleplayer and new multiplayer there seems to be lots of critters... I was just wondering if they respawn after theyve been killed... or do you need an existing pair to breed back the population?

Also I do have the bed spawn going on... it's just when I return home from doing stuff and get jumped by a damn creeper.... I've lost a few things along the way to this guy... not expecting them on the inside-- lesson learned -- I make sure everything is sealed and lit now... also going to start working on the doors/fences/gates/ etc. next.

Oh yeah also... last night or the night before? I was working in the MC SurvMulti server and it shut down... and it's not accessible anymore... is there some sort of admin reset needed or something?

You can not only breed two animals with a piece of wheat but if you hold it in your hand you can make them fallow you too. its useful for getting random animals spawns back to your base. As far as the inside of your house from what I know mobs dont spawn on half slabs or at least didnt at one point.

So the deal with your server is, I would need to mess around with some folders in order to have it running mods correctly or something?
I'm actually still enjoying the roughing it, fighting for supplies and food-- only right now my only option is singleplayer... I'd like to keep my game intact for playing on diff servers-- idk if part of your mod requirement alters that?

Just an FYI-- I edited my numbers... removing the :1337 at the end and now I'm seeing the servers...lol
Didn't try that until I started entering in servers from a list online of public ones... and noticed they didn't have that last set of #'s.

EDIT:-- about to connect to the MadCast Survival Multiplayer server... noticing it's named Beaverville.net... Is it possible it was hijacked?

The :1337 should be in it. It was saved that way for me. I cannot connect to it either, so it must be down. I haven't been on multi for a while. I'd be happy to jump on it sometime next week when my schedule is easier.

    I'd message Hank about it.

So I just wanted to say that I'm having an amazing time in Minecrack... I mean minecraft... I've already pulled an all-nighter or two....
I had fun on your server Nosto, but having unlimited ablities was kinda like buying a new game and entering the cheat codes before even learning to play it.... I know I had the option to turn off all that stuff--- but the temptation is just too great, and it made the all hard work and time spent gathering seem pointless.

With that in mind-- playing standard vanilla starting from scratch, on a giant world all alone-- with only the incredible structures left behind by my madcast ancestors-- is really quite exciting and intense. Every time I would start to get a good pile of loot, and want to transport back home, I ran the risk of getting blown up-- friggin creepers! and losing my stuff in a crater... not to mention having little idea of where I was or how I would return to recover said items...

The learning curve has been steady and enjoyable, I now realize the luxury I have in an empty server-- I can pretty much live in constant daylight with very few mobs harassing me, if I go to bed on time religiously... since it's only me-- I don't have to coordinate with anyone. I have seen a few peeps pop in and out here and there... omega, and blackwalter being the most recent.

Caving is a blast and intense-- I've got some pretty beatiful spots down there-- fully torched and revisitable should anyone ever come to see. I've had some pretty epic battles in there, where my skills with block placement came to fruition in helping me maneuver into the advantage-- or just save my ass with one heart to spare! It's fairly clear I've built a love for the underground, but it's taught me a lot in ability to be more effective above ground too.

Thanks Omega, for showing me your compound and helping me figure out that in my menu the keybind for "boost" is V, but in reality to get it to work I need to double-tap W... this has made a significant increase in my survivability!

Anyway, I've taken a few little tours now since I've gotten a little more established-- and I can see you guys have put tons of hours into your Metropolis you got goin on... so I can understand if yall are burned out on it by now... I know I've been at it pretty constantly and it's got something new to sidetrack me with every time I leave base... I've been "gonna" get a mate for my pig for days now, lol. Pretty soon I shall have enough wheat stockpiled to start using bread, instead of finding a good spot to drop my loot and die to regenerate health/hunger lol.

I love that the game put design before graphics-- I so much prefer this over a smoother world with more laggggg.
IT'S A F@CK!NG FUN GAME! And I wish I bought it sooner--- sadly my demo experience was sullied by dying due to lack of food and no idea what to do about it...

I hope some of you read this, and it revives a few of yallz interest in playing again! I have so far to go still in my tech progression, it's amazing!

you can use my mods, without the cheat and play. but i understand what you mean.

You can disable the cheats in the menu options after pressing E. You can also hide the interface on the right, there too.

    That might help.

Besides nothing more statisfying than having a solar powered house with shields.

I'm thinking when I feel like I've sufficiently exercised my need to play the game the way it originally came out, I'll be back on your server to go all out creating something crazy... for now I'm slowly coming into my own with a monstrous castle base that's growing from the ground up with air and tunnel connections... railway travel is on my horizon... got my first diamond yesterday and a bunch of redstone and lapiz azule or w/e...
