    Looking for guidance with LoL.

So, I am new to LoL currently only lvl 7. This week Rammus is free and I really like playing him. I was wondering if anybody had any tips on when buying gear, what I should be focusing on? he seems to be able to do a decent amount of damage while having survivibility. Just looking for a point in the right direction.

rammus is usually played as a tank.

are you playing dominion or summoner's rift?

I think you should start out on dominion because it allows you to try out characters quicker (and builds) without having to sink an hour into the game. In dominion, the first thinkg you usually buy as rammus is mobility boots (the yellow and orange ones that are 1k gold) and rush for the top turret (the turrets are referred to by the picture next to them, the top one being "windmill"). If you use use your Q ability and run through the speed boost WITH mobility boots on, you will be the first person there with your other two three teammates arriving shortly.

What you build after is totally dependent on the other team. You will probably die the first time you try this, that's fine as usually a tank's job is to die so that the more DPS folks can get fed. The key is what you do once you die. You should look to see what the other team is building and build counter them. So if you see a lot of Ability Power, you should build magic resist. If you see a lot of Attack Damage, you should build armor. There are some items that are both. For magic resist as rammus, I usually buy a Force of Nature. For armor, you can never go wrong with thornmail. In summoner's rift I usually buy a banshee's veil (not available in dominion). I am not great, by ANY STANDARDS, but I get by with a little help from my friends and the above items as rammus.

Again, I am no expert. But from what I gather the items usually are not the best builds. I would go to our guides section and see if someone is free this week that has a guide. That way, you know you are building the right way and just have to worry about the mechanics of the game and the char you are playing.

The recommended items are a good place to start looking. Since you are level 7 more of the learning curve I had at that point was getting used to the champions skills and not overextending. Learning items will come later. Basically those recommended items won't ever be bad for the champion but they may not always be the best one.

For Rammus always get a thornmail in my opinion. Thornmail plus taunt plus defensive curl does massive damage.
Lots of armor is good on rammus. It will up his damage.

On summoner's rift I enjoy jungle Rammus.

    Sota,

Keep these links open for guidance for some really good guides on all toons:

    http://www.mobafire.com/league-of-legends/browse
Find the "Top Hero" drop down and view the most popular guides.

    Same with this one:
    http://www.solomid.net/guides.php

As you learn a character, look at how most people itemize them to give you a good feel for it. After a few months, you won't need these! You will slowly become more familiar with what can be an overwhelming store, and what works best with each character.

One other thing: If you are new, and are going to spend any money on this game; go to the "RP Store" and buy a Champions Bundle. You get over 15 heros for under 20 bucks. It's a solid deal if you really like the game and want to play longer term.

    Good Luck!

Rammus is a tank who has exceptional single target DPS and dueling power.

You've got exceptional mobility, one of the few taunts in the game, surprisingly good AD DPS, and the last remaining ability that can do damage to towers. He's a beastly package, but you've got to be flexible with his build. His best role is anti-physical, but you can easily spec him to counter mage characters. It's very important to get him a source of HP early on to make up for his relatively low progression compared to other tanks. He doesn't necessarily need a giant's belt item. Heart of Gold or Aegis of the Legion serve the cause well.

Make sure you are taunting high value targets, such as hard hitting AD carries or characters with interrupt-able ultimates.

This is great advice. I personally build an early Aegis on him as well as Ninja Tabi. After that it depends on what you are up against. For AP heavy teams I like to get a Force of Nature before I grab any armor then I may pick up an armor item like Thornmail or the like. I like to grab Banshee's Veil but have been favoring Quicksilver Sash so I can pick when I stop their CC and a Gaurdians angel just for good measure. If you are up against a ton of CC I suggest either buying an Eliesa's Miracle with your Ninja Tabi or just get Mercury Treads and skip both.
