You forgot to put On Topic in the thread title. I went ahead and did it for you.

I think you resort to formatting too quickly.

If anything, when you've got all your steam games downloaded copy your steamapps folder to an outside source like an external hard drive or something safe. I got a thread in the tech corner that shows you how to put your Steam games back onto a new or formatted hard drive. This way when you do have to format, you don't need to go and download all your Steam games all over again, and I know it especially sucks with your internet.

I agree with Poison on this as well. Remeber that F8 puts you in safe mode, and usually allows your computer to function even with a virus. Given your particular status with a lack of reliable connection, I would be willing to assist you in eradication rather than formatting if it happens again. Who knows, you may learn a thing or two.

Provided you have a router to act as your firewall, all you need nowadays for your antivirus/malware needs is Microsoft Security Essentials: http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/ Once my NOD32 sub runs out, I'm just going to be using that. So unless your looking at some shady porn, you won't need any more protection than that.

Also remember that when all else fails and you want to try one more thing before resorting to a reformat, there's always ComboFix. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix

    Bleepingcomputers is amazing!
