MadCast: Support Welfare
So I finally got a chance to visit family this year as I didn't go home last year for Christmas. While I was there I got some old family recipes and thought it would be cool to shave one or two and see if you guys had some you'd like to share as well. This recipe is something my grandmother made for the family get togethers (x-mas, thanksgiving, etc.) and really makes me think of my childhood. Give it a try and let me know what you think! Do keep in mind its a pretty big dish. Murphy's Hot Dish - 2 lbs. Hamburger 1 Onion 1 Stalk of celery 2 Cans cream of celery 2 Cans cream of mushroom 2 Cans cream of chicken 1/4 Cup of soy sauce (I like to add more for flavor) 2 Cups of water Mix everything together well in a large, oven safe dish/pan, cover with foil and cook at 350 for 1 hour to 1 1/2 hour. There really isn't too much to it but its something that I grew up loving and wanted to share. Hope you enjoyed your holidays everyone! MadCast: Cloud
 Awards
MadCast: Dez
We got a Midwesterner confirmed I do something very similar, but with chicken and rice instead of hamburger and no soy sauce. To top it off, put butter slices over the top so it melts into everything. I grease that puppy too or the rice really sticks. Fits fantastically in a 12 x 9. Going to have the try the Murphy recipe!! Did your grandmother ever top it with taters? I think a lot of hot dishes do tater tots or potatoe on top.
 Awards
MadCast: Mike
@MadCast: Support Welfare do you know if halving the ingredients to the dish works well? Asking for a friend who is in college that won't be able to eat that much
 Awards
MadCast: Support Welfare
@MadCast: Dez Don't ever remember her using any sort of potato but I wouldn't be opposed to the idea. And yup, totally a midwest sort of thing. lol @MadCast: Mike I'd imagine it would work just fine. This is the sort of recipe that you get from older people. My grandma has given out this recipe to multiple people and none of them were the same recipe. I'm pretty sure she just threw whatever she had in her cupboards into a dish and called it good. Would make sense as she had 7 kids all a year or two of each other so it really did come down to if its edible you are going to eat it! I do really love this dish though. Its pretty hard to screw it up as its really simple. 😃 MadCast: Mike and MadCast: Dez
 Awards
