Applying for Full Membership: Process and Expectations

Recommended Posts

So you want be be a member of MadCast?

During your candidacy you will be asked to include the [C] tag in front of your username on Discord to make it clear to Full Members that you are currently a candidate. A thread will be made in the FM-only section of the forums where they will leave comments on their experiences with you. At the end of the Candidacy period the Senior Full Members will make a decision, mainly based on your comment thread, on whether you will become a Full Member.

Please make an earnest effort to earn positive feedback by getting involved: in games, on the forums, on our Discord server, and especially during MadCast events. Be sure to politely remind any Full Members you interact with to comment their opinions on your candidate thread. The most common reasons candidates fail to become members are a lack of consistent activity and not having enough comments to make a decision.

A few tips for a successful candidacy:

* Familiarize yourself with the MadCast Code of Conduct everyone is expected to abide by. You can also check out New to MadCast section for more information!

* Be regularly active on the forums! Try to check it at least a few times per week and participate in topics that interest you. Share anything you find interesting, because odds are someone else will too! Forum activity is an important component of successful candidacies.

* Join our Discord Server! Even if you don’t or can’t use voice chat, you’re welcome to listen in. Playing games with members on our server is a good way for them to get to know you on a personal level.

* Attend events hosted by MadCast that have many people in one place that you can meet and leave a good impression on.

* Use the same username on the forums and Discord, as well as in-game, when possible. If you aren’t able to do this, make sure that the members you play with know who you are. They can’t leave comments on your thread if they don’t know which one is yours!

* Join the MadCast Public Group to make it easy for us to contact you, and for updates on Steam.

If you have any issues you can contact one of our current admins. Feel free to post general questions regarding the candidacy process and community in the Discord #candidate-chat channel. Full Members will be able to satisfy most of your curiosities about the basics of being a part of MadCast.

This information also appears in our On-Topic forum and applies to all candidates who apply on or after August 14, 2011. It is reposted here to give all potential candidates insight into a new policy that the Senior Full Members have implemented in order to strengthen the ideals set forth above.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today, the Senior Full Members of MadCast announce a new policy regarding candidates for admission to MadCast. Long study has convinced us that the amount of interaction a candidate has with our members is one of several relevant indicators of a candidate's fitness for admission. We have also observed that as MadCast grows, it becomes harder for each individual SFM to personally interact with every single candidate despite our best efforts to do so. However, we truly value what Full Members have to say about candidates and wish to encourage more candidate interaction and Full Member input to improve the quality of our admissions process.

No one benefits when the SFMs are forced to vote on a candidate that no one has anything to say about for better or worse. Therefore we are adopting the following policy, effective immediately (this applies to new candidates only; anyone whose candidacy started before today, August 14th, 2011 will be under the old system):

In order for any candidate to be voted upon, there must be no less than FIVE distinct comments posted in his/her comments thread by the end of the one month candidacy period. These 5 comments can be in support, or they can be against the person, or any combination of the two. They can even be purely factual, as in "I played game X with the[c] for an hour yesterday." The point is that anyone without at least 5 distinct comments, as in 5 separate and true comments from 5 different members, will not be voted upon and their candidacy will end automatically at the end of the month period.

As with any other failed candidacy other than one that ends in a ban, such a candidate would be eligible to reapply immediately and a new comment thread will be created if they choose to reapply.

It has been brought to my attention that what constitutes the "comments thread" is not clear. It is not your introduction post in the Introductions Forum. The comments thread that then-SFM MadCast: Malacca was referring to above is the Comments Thread that is created in the private MadCast forums. In the Comments Thread anyone in MadCast can stop by and offer an opinion on your candidacy, say that that they saw you, or basically say anything relating to you. You need FIVE comments in that thread. You [as in a candidate] are allowed to ask how many comments you have. However, you are NOT allowed to ask what was said, and any FM+ that divulges the contents of a comments thread to a non-member is subject to explusion. I hope this makes things a bit clearer going forward.

I just wanted to bring attention to the fact that the Teamspeak server information on this thread is out of date. Cheers!

Thank you Spiricore! It will be taken care of :)

Psst Butter, I think it was taken care of.

OH, and I think the TS info on the MadCast Steam page needs to be updated though.
