Applying for Full Membership: Process and Expectations

Recommended Posts

So you want be be a member of MadCast?

Applying for Full Membership is a one month process that starts at the time you formally state you are applying for Full Membership in your intro post. At this time you will be assigned a mentor to help answer any lingering questions you might have and to guide you through the candidacy process.

Please list the times of day you usually play so we can get you a mentor which is likely to be active at the same times. During the process you will be asked to put a [C] at the front of your in-game names when possible to denote that you are a candidate. Throughout this month the Full Members and above will comment on their experiences with you in a comments thread in the Full Members only section of the forums. The Full Members can only comment on you if they know who you are so please go out of your way to make yourself known in games, on Discord, on the forums, and on IRC. By far the most common reason candidates fail is due to lack of activity. After one month has passed the Senior Full Members vote and if they support your bid you then become a Full Member.

A few tips for a successful candidacy:

* Please familiarize yourself with the MadCast Code of Conduct that all must abide by. Check out the New to MadCast section for more useful information!

* Be active on the forums! Check it regularly and participate when possible. If you find something interesting then share it! Chances are someone else will find it interesting as well. Being active on the forums is a good habit to learn, and is one of the main criteria noticed during your candidacy.

* Join us on Discord! Even if you don't have a mic you're welcome to listen in. Being active on Discord and playing with other members is the best way to be noticed around the community!
Discord Server: https://discord.gg/Cy5WX6B

* Use the same name on both the forums, Discord, and in-game when possible. If not possible make sure people know who you are! We rely on feedback from our members when evaluating full membership and they can't give positive reviews for you if they don't know who you are.

* Join the MadCast Public Group to make it easy for us to contact you, and for updates on Steam

If you are having a problem please attempt to contact your mentor first if they are available. If not please contact an RFM or SFM. If a Staff member is needed the admins will consult them. A list of admins can be found at this link.

Last but not least the requirement for you to even be eligible to be voted on can be found here.

This information also appears in our On-Topic forum and applies to all candidates who apply on or after August 14, 2011. It is reposted here to give all potential candidates insight into a new policy that the Senior Full Members have implemented in order to strengthen the ideals set forth above.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today, the Senior Full Members of MadCast announce a new policy regarding candidates for admission to MadCast. Long study has convinced us that the amount of interaction a candidate has with our members is one of several relevant indicators of a candidate's fitness for admission. We have also observed that as MadCast grows, it becomes harder for each individual SFM to personally interact with every single candidate despite our best efforts to do so. However, we truly value what Full Members have to say about candidates and wish to encourage more candidate interaction and Full Member input to improve the quality of our admissions process.

No one benefits when the SFMs are forced to vote on a candidate that no one has anything to say about for better or worse. Therefore we are adopting the following policy, effective immediately (this applies to new candidates only; anyone whose candidacy started before today, August 14th, 2011 will be under the old system):

In order for any candidate to be voted upon, there must be no less than FIVE distinct comments posted in his/her comments thread by the end of the one month candidacy period. These 5 comments can be in support, or they can be against the person, or any combination of the two. They can even be purely factual, as in "I played game X with the[c] for an hour yesterday." The point is that anyone without at least 5 distinct comments, as in 5 separate and true comments from 5 different members, will not be voted upon and their candidacy will end automatically at the end of the month period.

As with any other failed candidacy other than one that ends in a ban, such a candidate would be eligible to reapply immediately and a new comment thread will be created if they choose to reapply.

It has been brought to my attention that what constitutes the "comments thread" is not clear. It is not your introduction post in the Introductions Forum. The comments thread that then-SFM MadCast: Malacca was referring to above is the Comments Thread that is created in the private MadCast forums. In the Comments Thread anyone in MadCast can stop by and offer an opinion on your candidacy, say that that they saw you, or basically say anything relating to you. You need FIVE comments in that thread. You [as in a candidate] are allowed to ask how many comments you have. However, you are NOT allowed to ask what was said, and any FM+ that divulges the contents of a comments thread to a non-member is subject to explusion. I hope this makes things a bit clearer going forward.

I just wanted to bring attention to the fact that the Teamspeak server information on this thread is out of date. Cheers!

Thank you Spiricore! It will be taken care of :)

Psst Butter, I think it was taken care of.

OH, and I think the TS info on the MadCast Steam page needs to be updated though.
