Installing Mimic using Twitch App or MultiMC

Recommended Posts

There are 2 launchers that I would recommend using if you are interested in checking out the pack or coming and playing on the server.  Twitch App is from and it has most of the functionality of the old FTB launcher along with all the other app stuff it does, if you have it or are not comfortable with MultiMC sticking with Twitch is perfectly fine. Twitch App will mean that you will need to have or create a free twitch account also. MultiMC is a free launcher that allows you to maintain multiple instances and give you more granular control over the java environment.

Twitch App

Download and install the Twitch App -

Along the top bar you will want to click on 'Mods'

In Mods you will click on the ghost image of Minecraft

you can change the directory or just click install here

Once finished you will want to click 'Browse Modpacks' and search for mimic

Install and go back to 'My Modpacks' we will need to adjust a couple of settings before we are all finished.

On the right click on the gear icon and select 'Profile Options'

Uncheck 'Use System Memory Settings' and move the slider to how much memory you want to allocate for Mimic... I have been told that 6-8gigs should work but have not personally tested that low, I use 10gigs and it runs like a dream but some adjustment of this setting might be necessary.

Lastly we will need to toss in the java arguments from the Spoiler tag at the bottom of this post. you will want to go to the hamburger menu in the upper left and File>Settings. In Settings click on Minecraft and at the bottom you will see 'Additional Arguments' copy and paste the spoiler from the bottom of this post and you are all set.

Click Play on your Mimic Instance and the Official Minecraft launcher will come up with a green play button that should say 'Mimic Modpack'

click play and congrats you are now a nerd, nerd.

Download and install MultiMC from

Go to the curseforge website for The Mimic Modpack

click on 'Files'

Click on the newest file to go to the Details page and on the details page right click on the Download icon and select 'Copy link address'

In MultiMC click 'Add Instance' fill in the name 'Mimic Modpack' and select 'Import from zip' and paste in the address we just copied from CF and hit 'OK'

Once the instance is added to MultiMC we just have a couple of settings we need to update before we start playing. Select Mimic Modpack and in the menu on the right select 'Edit Instance' on the left menu of this new window select 'Settings' and we need to select a memory range as well as push the java arguments from the spoiler tag at the bottom of this post.

Once done go ahead and load your new instance and pat yourself on the back for being a nerd, nerd.
